Appearance color types and coloring in tattooing

The color scheme of PM includes many different nuances, and the master must improve in this matter every day of his practice, combining the repetition of theory with the application of practical skills during each new procedure.

Why is color so important and what is it in general? In short, color is the science of mixing and matching colors. Incorrect selection of shades for tattooing can be fraught in the future with a change in the color of the eyebrows, arrows and lips, on which the master worked, to a completely unnatural and unacceptable shade.

What allows you to achieve the perfect shade when mixing pigments of different colors? Each experienced micropigmentation specialist has his own professional secrets, practical experience and author's techniques. But they are all based on the basic concepts of color. Indeed, on the skin of people with different color types, the same color of the coloring pigment will look completely different. Therefore, it is so important that the master knows how to correctly determine the type of appearance, and can also say with confidence which shades will look the most advantageous in each individual case, and which ones cannot be used categorically.

Determine the color type of the client

There are 3 color types of appearance, which can be distinguished by the following features:

  • the cold color type is characterized by snow-white, slightly pinkish, bluish or grayish skin, which, when tanning, acquires a brownish-yellowish color. For people of this color type, according to the rules of color, it is recommended to use warm tones of pigments;
  • skin of shades of peach, ivory, beige, which becomes brown-reddish when tanned, characterizes a warm color type, when working with which it is recommended to use, on the contrary, cold shades of tattoo pigments;
  • a mixed color type is identified when the skin equally has the characteristics of the two previous types. Colorists recommend matching shades of pigments to the color of hair and eyes.

Novice masters may naively think that, having determined the color type, it will be enough for them to simply choose a jar with a suitable pigment. But this is far from all the rules of color.

In practice, masters rarely use only one color. Achieving the desired tone is often done by mixing the base colors in the right proportions. And in this process, knowledge of color helps to clearly determine which colors will be obtained when mixed, which will complement each other and how one color overlaps at the expense of another.

Pigments: mix correctly

Recall that there are only three basic colors: red, yellow, blue. Other colors and shades are formed by mixing them in different combinations and proportions, and this is sure to be taught in any basic permanent makeup course.

The interaction of colors best helps to understand the Itten color wheel, created by the Swiss artist Johannes Itten to help painters. But it is also relevant for tattooing and is used in coloring, as it very clearly and clearly explains the theory of mixing colors, transitioning one into another and separating into cold and warm tones. In addition to the Itten color wheel, you can use other rules that allow you not to make mistakes in the process of obtaining the desired shade, for example, when using black and white. After all, when mixed in different proportions, they not only give a gray color of different intensity. Adding white will make the color of the pigment lighter and matte, and black will darken any tone.

In addition, guided by the basics of color, you can cover up some of the shades that are sometimes present in the paints for the PM, so that they do not subsequently appear as unwanted tones on the skin. Thus, the addition of a gray-brown pigment in the tattoo of the lips allows you to neutralize the unwanted manifestation of blue-violet shades. And to prevent the orange color from appearing in the tattoo of the eyebrows, the use of an olive tint will help. Blues and grays are neutralized by orange, while yellow will help make bright browns lighter and more natural.

Thus, the professionalism of the PM master lies not only in well-adjusted movements that allow you to quickly carry out the procedure. The master must also know the properties of the skin perfectly, understand the color types of the appearance and be able to correctly select and mix the desired shades of colors. That is, without such a thing as coloring, an excellent permanent makeup specialist cannot do without.
