Permanent makeup: conditions for becoming a specialist and business
How to build a successful business as a permanent makeup master
Permanent makeup is one of the most sought after trends in the beauty industry. Have a business idea for a permanent makeup salon? Then this article is for you!
The business of permanent makeup is one of the most sought-after areas in the beauty industry, because the creation of an attractive image is the cost item that almost no representative of the beautiful half of humanity refuses even in a crisis.
A bit about the history of the development of permanent makeup
Makeup with the help of tattoo technology (tattoo makeup, cosmetic tattoo, cosmetic tattoo) has never been massive. Only some tattoo artists tried to perform it, who had the desire and the corresponding customers. Entrepreneurs from Southeast Asia have undertaken to turn tattoo makeup into a profitable business. They realized that it was impossible to do this using relatively heavy, unaesthetic, vibration-producing tattoo machines. It was necessary to create a technology that would be attractive to make-up artists and cosmetologists. For this, light, elegant, low-noise, with a minimum level of vibration and, as it seemed then, simply ideal devices were developed. For the female hand, they turned out to be incomparably more ergonomic than tattoo machines. Disposable consumables have replaced the traditional need for tattoo artists to solder needles, sterilize needles and tips for each procedure.
The new technology was called permanent makeup, tattooing, and it required a much more diverse range of pigments than tattoo artists, who usually use 10-12 primary colors. From the very beginning, the direction of creating a wide palette of hypoallergenic pigments was chosen. Therefore, the dyes included in their composition, respectively, could not be of plant origin, otherwise the risk of allergic reactions would be extremely high. All other ingredients must also be hypoallergenic. If someone in his advertisement writes that he uses vegetable pigments, then either he does not understand the essence of the issue or he actually uses an unprofessional product of a "left" manufacturer. Only high-tech production, comparable to pharmaceutical, can guarantee the absence of impurities in pigments.
Permanent makeup as a business
Since the early 1980s, permanent makeup has taken over the planet. The beauty business in Asia, Europe, America took the novelty with great interest. However, at that time there were no schools of permanent makeup, and therefore most beginners worked on a whim.
As in any business, in permanent makeup there are people who treat their work formally, superficially, but there are researchers by nature who try to study the issue to the depth, to approach the matter creatively. Only a creative approach contributes to the improvement of technology, the improvement of the quality of services, and, consequently, the development of business.
What characterizes the initial stage of development of permanent makeup in the world? Firstly, apparatuses and pigments made in Taiwan dominated the world market. Secondly, in practice, there was a great interest in this service on the part of clients. Moreover, more resistant pigments, which supposedly could provide high-quality permanent makeup for 6-10 years, were much less in demand and were replaced by "semi-permanent" pigments, which promised the quality of permanent makeup for 3-5 years.
Thirdly, make-up artists and cosmetologists showed great interest in the technology of permanent make-up. Fourthly, due to the lack of permanent makeup schools in most countries, future specialists were mostly self-taught, which increased the percentage of marriage.
Fifthly, dermatologists gradually paid more and more attention to permanent makeup procedures. Some of them not only accumulated statistical material, but also analyzed and identified the causes of some of the costs of permanent makeup.
Permanent makeup is a business for manufacturers of permanent makeup machines and consumables. By the beginning of the 1990s, the shortcomings of the first generation devices were identified, and new equipment was developed with higher power, the necessary adjustments of operating modes and, most importantly, with a high-precision drive of the needle movement.
With the advent of new equipment in the mid-1990s, the cost of equipping the workplace and the cost of the procedure increased. The cost of permanent makeup as a service in Europe was quite high even before the appearance of the first professional devices.
Manufacturers of devices of different designs are counting on different market segments. Devices of obsolete designs will be produced as long as they are bought. Sales campaign managers who decide on the purchase and promotion of certain technologies on the market are most often not experts in the field of permanent makeup and are guided by criteria that are in no way related to the desire to improve the quality of services.
Therefore, we see examples of sales when devices such as Taiwan Pen and modern German devices are placed on neighboring shelves. Some sales managers even came up with the concepts of "economy class machines" and "business class machines". This is appropriate in cosmetology when selling devices, for example, for body shaping. For permanent makeup, this logic is completely inappropriate if you stand in the client's position. Every novice specialist should know that professional devices are a necessary condition for the quality of permanent makeup. It is better to take a loan for high-quality equipment of your workplace than to throw away the money given for primitive equipment. The illiteracy of some beginners is based, firstly, on their unwillingness to delve into the essence of the issue, and secondly, on their unprofessional training received in permanent makeup courses organized for the sole purpose of selling what is in stock.
Who is closest to the client?
Who is responsible for the quality of services? Of course, from a specialist and from the salon where he works.
I think that no one will argue with the statement that commercial success is the higher, the higher the image of a specialist and salon, and also with the fact that the image is directly affected by the quality of work.
Unfortunately, we have to observe that the majority of potential specialists who are interested in the issues of training and the acquisition of equipment, first of all, do not think at all about what will allow them to work efficiently in the future. In this, they repeat the mistakes of clients who wear permanent makeup marriage on their faces. Namely: for them the main thing is cheaper now.
However, it must be admitted that not everyone does this. If you're really going to be a professional, make good money, and want to understand what it takes, it's always best to have a pre-interview before signing up for a particular school. This will help you as a potential specialist not to make a mistake when deciding to spend money on training and equipment. One of the questions that those who want to learn the art of permanenting should ask themselves is the question of organizational readiness to start learning. The fact is that in order to get the expected return on permanent makeup, you need to approach this issue the way you approach the organization of a new business. Namely, to calculate the cost of equipping the workplace, to know the cost of the procedure. It is necessary to develop a plan for promoting a new service with an assessment of the associated costs. When calculating the revenue side, you need to know: how much the procedure will cost, and how many of them will be performed per month.
One of the most common misconceptions is the opinion of cosmetologists that permanent makeup is one of the procedures in their office, along with cleaning, chemical peeling, mesotherapy, and so on. And they, having passed the training course, will sometimes turn to it as applications come in. But permanent makeup is, first of all, makeup. Don't forget about it. And secondly, permanent makeup is a narrow specialization or almost such.
If a cosmetologist does not give up cosmetology, taking up permanent make-up, then he should give priority to a new service. With quality work in 2-4 years, the specialist will be forced to leave cosmetology, as he will “acquire” regular customers. The flow of clients on the recommendation and good earnings is the lot of those who are not accidentally engaged in permanent makeup and properly organized the business.
Quality tattoo training is the main element in the foundation of a business called permanent makeup. Tattoo training is the transfer from hand to hand of the secrets of permanent makeup. A specific specialist owns the secrets, so training always has a specific authorship. Equipping the workplace of a specialist on the advice of a teacher is a logical continuation of training and the second main component in this wonderful business. The ability to provide a specialist with a sufficient flow of clients to acquire the necessary experience is the third prerequisite for becoming a specialist and business. Gathering well-deserved fruits and rejoicing together with the client about the result of your work, it is advisable to remember the well-known truth that regular professional development in your specialty is the key to continued success in your favorite business!
