From A to Z: Permanent Makeup Room

How to create a new specialized office for a permanent makeup artist

What is the most important thing in permanent makeup? There can be many answers to this question. From the position of the client, the main thing is the quality of permanent makeup and safety for his appearance and health. One of the components in ensuring the quality and safety of the procedure is the equipment of the office

For the client, the consumer of the now very popular permanent make-up service, the main thing is the quality of the result of the procedure that meets the needs of the customer, and safety for his appearance and health. One of the components in ensuring quality and safety is the strict observance of the rules and regulations of equipment, equipment and maintenance of permanent makeup rooms.

If you decide to create a new specialized permanent makeup office, then you will need to equip it in accordance with the requirements of sanitary rules and regulations designed to ensure safety and high quality of services. In addition, a workplace for performing permanent makeup procedures can be equipped in an existing office (for example, a cosmetologist).

Required for consultation

Before performing the procedure, especially if you are working with this client for the first time, a detailed consultation is held, during which the client formulates his order, and the master, for his part, helps the client to understand the meaning, conditions for the provision of services and other features of permanent makeup. Not everyone, especially novice masters and salon managers, is aware of the importance of the proper organization of the consultation. A consultation with the signing of an informed consent, carried out hastily, without an adequate understanding by the client of the document signed by him, can lead to conflict situations, the loss of the client and the bad reputation of the master in the future. That is why it is very desirable to organize the consultation so that the client can carefully, in a relaxed atmosphere, study the informed consent and understand all the comments of the master.

It is very good if during the conversation the master shows the client photos of his work. This helps to more accurately determine the wishes of the client regarding the choice of geometry and color scheme of the sketch. A novice master should make every effort to arrange his portfolio. Accordingly, the workplace should be able to take photos and videos. Ideally, you need a coffee table and two chairs for a conversation. If it is not possible to allocate an area for consultation in the treatment room, then this can be provided in the adjacent room. It should also be borne in mind that the consultation also includes drawing a sketch of the future work. And this is the work of the master as a make-up artist with an analysis of the features of the face and often the search for a compromise that takes into account the wishes of the customer, the rules of aesthetics, as well as the individual features of the client's face. In the area for drawing, discussing and approving the sketch, there should be a chair for the client, located opposite the mirror with special two-sided lighting.

A make-up remover, a sketch tool is the choice of the master, but at the same time there are certain criteria for choosing these tools. For example, a sketching tool must provide a clear sketch boundary for an unambiguous perception of its location by the master and the client. Many cosmetic pencils for eyebrows and lip contour do not meet this requirement. Makeup remover tonic, which has antibacterial properties, can be considered a very good choice.

Question of furniture

The procedure itself is carried out lying or reclining on a cosmetic (massage) couch with adjustable height and angle of inclination of the head end. Masters prefer to work sitting on a chair with adjustable height. How to position the chair - on the side of the couch or on the side of the head end - is not a matter of principle, and usually the decision is based on the individual preferences of the master. However, it has been observed that makeup artists and artists usually prefer to sit on the side of the couch to be closer to the actual perception of the face, as in normal life situations.

The procedure is completed: quality control

Experienced craftsmen attach great importance to the quality of workplace lighting. In order to adequately control the quality of your work during the procedures, it is desirable to choose a lamp that has sufficient brightness, shadowless and does not heat the working area. Traditional magnifying lamps, which are equipped with cosmetologists' offices, and stationery lamps, which are usually used by manicurists, do not meet such requirements.

Undoubtedly, the “laser-control” device is a great help in the work of the master. It is designed to control the quality of skin pigmentation directly during the procedure and allows you to achieve the desired degree of saturation of the skin with pigment and minimize skin trauma to implement the idea of delicate permanent makeup.

Many masters use special glasses or tips for reading glasses to even better control the quality of their work, if the master has farsightedness. Such glasses and nozzles are selected individually according to diopters.

Hygiene in the workplace

On measures to ensure the safety of the health of the client and the master during the procedures of permanent makeup, you should especially dwell. In addition to the general requirements for ensuring asepsis in cosmetology rooms, when equipping the workplace of a permanent makeup master, you should pay attention to the following.

After make-up removal, when preparing the skin for the procedure, it is necessary to use either skin antiseptics or special antibacterial tonics. All surfaces that may be touched by the hands of the master during the procedure must be treated with special preparations before and after the procedure. By “surfaces” we mean a working table, a lamp, a handle of the device and the device itself, a tray, a stand for pigment containers.

When removing make-up and during the procedure, it is very convenient to use absorbent wipes made of non-woven material. Disposable caps, masks, shoe covers, napkins under the head and on the chest of the client are also indispensable attributes of the permanent makeup master's workplace.

Regardless of the design of the device, needles and caps for them must be disposable and sterile. The sterility period must be indicated on the packages of needles and caps. In many cases this is not respected, and needles and caps of dubious quality and origin go on sale.

How to choose a treatment tool?

By equipping the workplace, masters usually understand the acquisition of a device for permanent makeup. Of course, the tool that directly performs skin pigmentation plays a decisive role in achieving a high level of quality in permanent makeup. It is very difficult for beginners and the uninitiated to make a choice. Trade managers often have a remote understanding of the topic of permanent makeup, but they know exactly what the buyer wants to hear, and successfully sell something that should have disappeared from the world market 10 years ago.

Many devices offered on our market have a design that does not prevent the ingress of pigment and blood into the non-replaceable part of the pen (tip) during the procedure and when dismantling the needles. For this reason, it is necessary to additionally purchase an ultrasonic bath for cleaning and disinfecting the handpiece with such devices. For this, a special preparation, such as Grotonat or Rotasept, is poured into the ultrasonic bath, designed specifically for ultrasonic cleaning and disinfection. If, after cleaning and disinfection, the tip is not sterilized, then when installing a new needle, the sterility of the latter may be impaired. The disadvantage of the aforementioned designs of devices is the possibility of injury to the master on the sharp end of the needle during its installation and dismantling, as well as during operation, even when the device is turned off.

These shortcomings are deprived of modern designs of devices, in which a hygienic module is mounted in the handle, which is a monoblock with a needle placed inside the capsule. Thanks to the equipment of the device with hygienic modules, the pigment and blood do not get into the handle and safety requirements are observed when mounting and dismantling the hygienic modules. In addition, there is no need for ultrasonic cleaning and disinfection, as well as sterilization of the handle parts. Devices with handles equipped with hygiene modules are the most promising in terms of meeting the requirements of sanitary rules and regulations regarding the maintenance of permanent makeup and tattoo rooms. A wide variety of configurations of bundled needles of hygienic modules is another of the most important advantages of such designs. This significantly expands the possibilities of the master to implement the idea of an individual approach to each client, taking into account the peculiarities of his skin and the embodiment of the artist's artistic intention.

Different models of devices are quite different from each other in design, and therefore, for each of them, the “Rules for organizing and conducting permanent makeup procedures” must be developed for the user, which will be attached to the device along with a technical passport.

I would like to dispel the false and, unfortunately, widespread opinion that it is better for a novice master to buy a simpler device (read: cheaper). In terms of quality and safety, permanent make-up should not include economy-class, business-class and premium-class devices. So it is appropriate to talk about equipment, for example, for body shaping, while implying devices that have greater or lesser efficiency. And in permanent makeup, more advanced devices provide better quality and safety, and this, you see, is worthy of all clients, and not just a select few. It is better to teach a novice master to work on modern equipment right away, including in order not to retrain and re-equip his workplace later.

In addition to the requirements for permanent makeup devices based on asepsis and safety conditions, there are requirements for ensuring minimal skin trauma, requirements for the devices to have modes designed for both complex, especially strong skin and easily injured. Over the past 10 years, new models of modern devices have entered the Ukrainian market. However, the lack of consumer awareness allows the demand for primitive designs of permanent makeup equipment to persist. In the meantime, there will be a demand for what is cheaper, there will be a corresponding supply.

How did this situation come about? The fact is that recommendations for equipping the workplace are a logical component of permanent makeup training. And until the mentality of potential masters looking for cheap schools for training changes, until they set themselves the goal of getting quality education and earning good money, and will only think about how to save money on training and equipping their workplace, we will have many places that shamelessly imitate training and sell what their customer asks for, that is, what is simpler and cheaper.

Palette of pigments

The workplace of a permanent makeup master should be equipped with a sufficient palette of pigments. The minimum set of pigments should contain from 20 variants of colors and shades. When purchasing pigments, you should pay attention to the presence of a sanitary and hygienic certificate for pigments as a cosmetic product for tattoos (permanent make-up), the presence of a factory package equipped with a bottle opening controller before sale (for example, a control belt), the presence of a factory marking containing information about the manufacturer , name and purpose of the content, composition and expiration date. The above requirements are violated, unfortunately, quite often, and this should not leave indifferent everyone who wants to work, taking care of the client and their business.

Pigments from different manufacturers have their own characteristics, which are comprehended during basic training or during the advanced training of an already practicing master. When selling pigments, they must be accompanied by a natural palette and detailed recommendations regarding the features of the use of each pigment.

avoid pain

If the qualification of the master allows the use of anesthesia, then in order to implement an individual approach, taking into account the characteristics of the client in the perception of anesthetics and the threshold of his pain sensitivity, various preparations in the form of gels, creams, as well as liquid anesthetics approved for use can be in the workplace. Sometimes clients bring their own over-the-counter anesthetics for self-administration as recommended by their physician. If procedures are carried out on the territory of the enterprise, in which anesthetics are used, then it is mandatory that a doctor supervising or performing anesthesia be present on this shift and an ambulance kit, appropriately stocked, must be available.

Additional "helpers"

The client will appreciate it if the master offers to put on travel glasses over his eyes during the procedure on the lips, protecting him from the bright light of the lamp and allowing him to relax. At the end of the procedures on the eyelids, to relieve eye irritation, you can offer the client drops of "Vizin" or "Emoxipin". If the client is concerned about post-procedural swelling on the eyelids or lips, then he can be offered dry ice in a disposable hygienic package with an application for 5-7 minutes. The permanent makeup procedure is stressful for many clients, so the presence of a music center and pre-selected music will also come in handy. Many masters use the time of the procedure for an additional conversation with the client about permanent makeup. If this is a regular customer who wants to relax, then the use of individual headphones will help him to abstract himself from the situation as much as possible and relax. If it was not possible to find adequate anesthesia, then the client's ears should be at the disposal of the master, and the latter must use all his talent in the field of neurolinguistic programming.

In conclusion, I would like to recall what was indicated at the beginning of the article and what you need to remember when organizing a permanent makeup service. Informed consent of the client to the provision of services is a legal document that is drawn up during the consultation process and prevents possible conflict situations with the client or helps to better understand them if they arise. Therefore, the informed consent form must be taken extremely seriously. We wish all those interested in the topic of this article to be as scrupulous as possible to all seeming trifles, because only this gives quality, safety and brings commercial success as a well-deserved result of the work done.
