Given the fact that there are many causes of hyperpigmentation, the classification of hyperpigmentation (hypermelanosis) is complex and extensive. The article discusses only some of the most common epidermal hypermelanoses.
Classification of epidermal hypermelanosis
The term "epidermal hypermelanosis" means its origin (the pigment is synthesized by melanocytes located in the basal layer of the epidermis). All epidermal hypermelanoses are brown in color, unlike dermal hypermelanoses, which have varying shades of gray and blue. The cause of dermal hypermelanosis is a violation during embryogenesis.
Treatment of hypermelanosis
The traditional treatment of hyperpigmentation is all kinds of peelings or grinding, which can be performed using both physical (mechanical, cryo-peeling, helio-peeling, laser) and chemical (alpha-, beta-hydroxy acids, trichloroacetic acid, phenol) agents. Treatment of hypermelanosis is often difficult.
According to the localization of the melanin pigment, epidermal, dermal and mixed hyperpigmentation are distinguished.
