Retinoids work well when used correctly: with the correct form, concentration, and realistic treatment duration.

Retinoids are one of the most effective tools in dealing with age-related changes, skin texture, and keratinization. But they are not “ordinary cosmetic ingredients”: retinoids actively affect cells, can produce powerful results, and equally powerful side effects. That is why it is important to correctly understand their capabilities and limitations.

  1. Retinoic acid and retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A. They play a key role in the development of various organs and metabolic processes of many tissues. The skin is far from the only structure affected by retinoids, so retinol and its derivatives require careful use even in topical forms. Retinoids can interact with the nervous system of the embryo, which is why they are prohibited during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Most dermatologists advise stopping the use of retinol even at the stage of pregnancy planning.
  2. Retinol is one of the most powerful and well-known cosmetic ingredients and is one of the few substances that can penetrate cell membranes directly into skin cells. Once inside the cell, retinol and its derivatives change the expression of genes that regulate cell proliferation and differentiation, that is, they actually act as epigenetically active molecules. Retinol can prevent the activation of enzymes that destroy collagen and inhibit the development of oxidative stress, while stimulating the restoration of deep skin structures.
