A cosmetologist is often the first doctor to see a patient’s breast skin up close. As a “front-line” specialist who may notice critical changes during body treatments or consultations, he or she must always be mindful of professional responsibility, oncovigilance, and patient safety.

Let's continue talking about the aggressive influence of external factors on the body that can cause breast cell mutation.

  • Excess weight after menopause

According to statistical studies, about 13% of breast cancer cases are associated with this factor. After the end of the menstrual function, the production of estrogen in the body does not stop, but now it occurs not in the ovaries, but in the adipose (fat) layers. The fatter a woman is, the more estrogen is contained in her blood. Research tests have shown that in the body of a fat postmenopausal woman, the estrogen hormone can be produced several times more than in a young and slim one.

Accumulations of visceral fat (in the waist and abdomen) pose a greater threat than increased hip size, since they are directly related to the development of insulin resistance in the body.

Women who have previously been diagnosed with breast cancer and gained weight after (or during) treatment are at particular risk. A 10% weight gain compared to their pre-diagnosis weight has been shown to increase the risk of recurrence by 14% compared to those who have gained no more than 5% of their weight since diagnosis.
