Perioral zone: a differential approach to choosing exfoliation methods
Chemical exfoliation or mechanical dermabrasion?

Recently, the attitude towards dermabrasion has been quite controversial. We are increasingly talking about excessive mechanical aggression and that the tissues must be pre-prepared to adequately respond to damage. What types of dermabrasion continue to be used now?
We continue to consider methods of exfoliation of the perioral zone, which is one of the most difficult due to high mimic activity and the risk of hyperpigmentation. In this part of the material, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of abrasion.
Classic dermabrasion
Mechanical dermabrasion has a wide variety of indications. For example, it is used to correct age-related changes in the skin of the face, reducing degenerative changes in collagen and elastin fibers of the dermis, contributing to their ordered structure and increasing elasticity.
Controlled microdermabrasion
Along with conventional microdermabrasion, there is controlled microdermabrasion. This is a procedure when the skin is treated to the desired depth also under the influence of aluminum oxide microcrystals. It is performed using a special device that has injection and aspiration compressors, tanks with working and used abrasive powder, as well as a disposable tip with point holes through which microcrystals are ejected. The procedure is as follows: corundum microcrystals are applied to the skin in a controlled flow under pressure, and at the same time, they are aspirated along with dead skin cells.
