What mistakes are important to avoid so as not to accidentally highlight age-related changes with makeup? Let's find out with an expert what kind of makeup it is - makeup that makes you look older, and which is clearly not worth doing.

Before starting to apply makeup, it is important for the makeup artist to analyze the client’s general color type, face shape, eye, face and hair color. Another important factor that influences the choice of makeup for a woman is her age. You should not ignore this point, so as not to end up creating makeup that makes the client look older. We are sure that few people will like this metamorphosis.

That’s why, together with our expert Julia Melnik, we decided to collect all the most common makeup mistakes that can add five or even 10 years to your hair! How to choose the right foundation or corrector, what shades of eye shadow you should forget about if an older woman is sitting in front of you, and what lip makeup is a taboo when doing anti-aging makeup , read below.

Face makeup that makes you look older

One of the important rules in makeup that should not be neglected is to assume that with a thick layer of dense foundation you will hide all skin imperfections! On the contrary - just emphasize! A dense tone emphasizes wrinkles even more, and if it is also matted with powder, then all age-related changes will become more obvious.

It is important to carefully highlight the contour of the face without going overboard with a dark shade of brown. I advise you not to use a corrector with a red tint, much less correct itwith blush ! The concealer should be a corrector, and the blush should be in its place.

Eye makeup tricks that age you

As we age, we understand that the less cosmetics the better. And indeed it is! Delicately highlight the client's eyes: do not overload the moving eyelid and refuse dark eyeliner on the lower eyelid - this will allow the woman to look much fresher. I don’t recommend going overboard with dark shades of shadows, use them to a minimum! It is also important to avoid blue, purple and other unnatural shades.

Remind your clients that even in everyday makeup there should be moderation. If you forget about this, they will look older than their age. Therefore, you should not chase fashion and get eyelash extensions. To prevent eye makeup from adding extra years, your client’s neat eyelashes should not be noticeable from afar.

Lip makeup that ages

Do not use lipsticks in lighter shades than the client's skin, especially if they are pearlescent. This product can create the effect of “dead lips”, and the woman will look much older.

I don’t recommend emphasizing your lips with bright dark lipstick if your lips themselves are small. This technique is appropriate for photo and video shooting, but in life it can look unaesthetic if the lipstick expands the boundaries of the lips to unnatural sizes!

To sum it up : always use moderation in the amount of products you use and do not forget about shades that age.
