Matte lipstick is not going to leave makeup artists' cases and remains incredibly popular. But how to avoid the mistakes that many make when applying a top beauty product? Let's figure it out.

Lip makeup for most makeup artists is the simplest and easiest, because to create it, as a rule, a couple of products are enough and not as many skills as for eye makeup or face sculpting. However, mistakes happen regularly to everyone, and they are especially noticeable when using capricious matte lipstick . It emphasizes peeling, small wounds and cracks, so you should always be on guard with it. We decided to collect all the common mistakes when applying it in one material in order to forget about them once and for all.

Forget about lip scrub

If your client's lips are flaky and you want to finish off your makeup with matte lipstick, you can't do without a lip scrub. This will help make your skin smoother and more even. If you skip this stage, you can hardly expect a beautiful, even coverage - matte lipstick will further highlight all the imperfections. Don't forget to use a sugar or salt lip scrub to make the job easier on yourself and ensure luxurious results.

Using the balm too late

Every makeup artist knows that before applying lipstick, you need to moisturize and nourish the skin of your lips using a balm. But using it immediately before applying lipstick and even five minutes before that is a mistake that matte lipstick will not forgive you for. During this short period of time, the balm does not have time to be absorbed into the skin, and therefore the lipstick can apply in strokes and lines, spread, lose color saturation and simply not “set” on the lips. Apply the balm to the girl’s lips while using a moisturizer or primer. Then it will have time to fulfill its function 100% and be absorbed into the skin.

Ignore lip primer

Do you have a huge selection of matte lipsticks, but don’t have a single primer for this part of your face? Very much in vain. This beauty product ensures longevity of lip makeup - and this is exactly what clients expect from matte lipstick. Moreover, it ideally prepares the delicate skin of the lips before applying lipstick, smoothes and fills wrinkles, moisturizes the lips and prevents matte lipstick from spreading beyond the contour during application and throughout the day.

Forget about a pencil

When creating lip makeup with matte lipstick, most often you cannot do without a contour pencil. An exception may be makeup with the effect of kissed lips or reverse ombre. Otherwise, without a pencil, matte lipstick may look untidy and will quickly lose its richness and durability. Therefore, before applying lipstick, draw the outline of your lips with a sharp pencil, then blend it towards the center. Check if the contour suits you and if your lips are symmetrical. Only then start applying lipstick.

Wear too much lipstick

It doesn’t matter whether you’re creating nude makeup with matte lipstick or bright berry lips, don’t overdo it with the amount of product. If you overdo it with matte lipstick, expect unpleasant surprises: dry lips, changes in texture, and even small cracks. Modern matte lipsticks are highly pigmented, so applying them is enough in one, maximum two layers. Then carefully distribute the product over the entire surface of your lips using a brush, checking the corners.

Do not correct the contour

After you have applied the lipstick, go along the contour line with a concealer brush and check that the lipstick does not run, smear or look untidy. This trick will allow you not to disturb the already finished face makeup in the area around the lips and at the same time correct all the flaws if your hand still trembles. To make your lips look fuller, use a concealer with reflective particles.
