What are your impressions of the first round of Beauty Battle?
I recently gave an interview in which the editor and I talked about how the relevance of makeup and makeup trends no longer needs expert assessment, but is largely determined by the number of likes and reposts. Therefore, competitions in the beauty field have now become something rare and unusual! And when I read the participants’ descriptions of their works, I really gained respect and admiration for their approach to this event! I was glad that they perceive this competition as an important stage in their professional development and motivation!
I see that each of the participants took the task seriously. Almost every work had a concept and idea! And for me this is the most important thing.
How do you like this competition format? In your opinion, does it have a future?
The battle format, in my opinion, although it has its pros and cons, is as modern and relevant as possible! On the one hand, we cannot evaluate the speed of execution or the quality of work with the same light and shooting. But, on the other hand, the final work that the participant sends is the result not only in terms of makeup, but also the image as a whole, its presentation to the audience and the jury, its presentation of itself as a master to the world as a whole! And this is the most important indicator for me!
It is important here that makeup does not depend on situational excitement, circumstances, mistakes, and so on. Each participant can do or redo his work so that it best suits, first of all, his personal requirements!
What is your impression of the works you had the chance to judge?
The perception of beauty is always very subjective, and it is very difficult to evaluate it. Personally, it’s difficult for me to give just a “dry” score. Instead (or at least in addition), I would like to give a comment on the work, conduct an analysis and argue my opinion. I think this is very important and valuable for the participants who came here for development, and not just for victory!
Do you perhaps have any tips or advice for participants who will be participating in the second round?
The most important recommendation is to do the work in the moment, do not take over old ones. Even the ones you like. Because the makeup industry is now developing as dynamically as possible, and trends replace each other very quickly. In order for your work to look relevant, fresh and resonate with the jury, it is important to comply with these trends. After all, judges are people who interact with makeup every day, and such a concept as “observation” creates high demands on the participants’ work (this is often expressed in the “Personal impression” column).
I focus on this, because the technique may not be ideal: many masters are just beginning their professional journey, and we treat this with understanding! Well, in my opinion, there are no problems with creativity! I am pleased that exactly those masters who are guided by a thirst for creativity and inspiration have gathered here!

What are your impressions of the first round of Beauty Battle?
In this difficult year, competitions of this kind bring us all together even more. The organizers, with their genuine enthusiasm and energy, gave many people the opportunity to believe in their true strengths.
The visuals of the battle participants allowed us to look at the work in a new way and expanded our horizons for new steps in the professional field.
How do you like this competition format? In your opinion, does it have a future?
Doing something interesting, feeling satisfaction from the results of your work, getting recognition through battles like this is a success! Success for everyone involved.
Today, everything new and successful is created at the intersection of different areas, in the combination of technologies and competencies. The competition brings together active make-up artists and make-up artists of the country, talks about striking examples that contribute to the development of potential. Holding a battle helps to increase the activity and scale of participation of professionals in the beauty field, helps in gaining new knowledge and inspires new achievements.
I wish the participants and the organizing committee of the competition further fruitful work, professional and personal success!
Do you perhaps have any tips or advice for participants who will be participating in the second round?
No recommendations - you need to create from the heart what you feel!
Julia Melnik , professional makeup artist since 2009, winner of the American Next level of Cosplay competition from the Hollywood Cinema Makeup School in 2016, follower of Leonard Engelman, make-up artist with experience in films (The Perception, Let it snow, Let's Dance, " Bobot", "Egregor"), commercials, music videos and with show business stars
What are your impressions of the first round of Beauty Battle?
Great experience! It's nice to evaluate works and see how makeup artists put their souls, all their creativity and make efforts to ensure that their work is of high quality!
How do you like this competition format? In your opinion, does it have a future?
I like the online competition format. Nowadays, this is relevant due to quarantine. And I’m telling you as a person who won an international online competition! I remember this struggle as now! Therefore, I know how the participants feel when they refresh the page to see if they have won or if they should try their hand again.
This format is very relaxing and gives freedom to makeup artists! After all, there are no time limits, no competitors who breathe in your back and no judges who walk nearby, watching every stroke of the brush! Complete freedom of creativity and no nerves
What is your impression of the works you had the chance to judge?
It’s very cool that everyone is trying to surprise! This way the participants stand out more to me! Of course, I pay special attention to the quality of the work, but the overall impression of the image is more important! I would like more creative makeup looks so that the judges are lost in their choice! So that all the works are incredibly cool, and for us, the jury members, to make it harder and harder to choose the winner.
Perhaps you have any tips or advice for participants who will be participating in the second round?
Well done participants! Continue in the same spirit! Don't be discouraged if you don't pass in any of the rounds! Firstly, it will motivate you to make the image even better next time! Try it! Don't give up! I wish you all good luck!
