Makeup tapes: what are they and what are they for?

The "fox eye" is a makeup trend inspired by the shape of the eyes of beautiful wild animals. A special makeup technique helps to visually lengthen the eyes and make them more seductive, giving the look that same cunning squint. However, makeup artists know for sure that it is easy and simple to achieve the desired lengthening of the eyelid and raising the outer corner to the temples using special makeup tapes.

What are makeup tapes?

Makeup tapes or lifting tapes allow you to achieve the effect of a fox look without filters or surgical interventions. They are two adhesive transparent bases, connected by an elastic band to match the hair color. Makeup artists attach adhesive areas to the skin of girls in the temple area, beautifully lifting the outer corners of the eyes, and the elastic band helps to hold the tapes and creates tension, which provides the desired lifting effect.

Makeup artists actively use this tool in master classes, photography, and even on the catwalk, when the image requires lifting the outer corners of the eyes and creating a seductive squint. To prevent the tapes from being visible, hairdressers recommend doing hairstyles with hair laid close to the face.

How to use tapes?

First, prepare your skin. It is advisable to treat the areas to which the tapes will be applied with an alcohol-containing product so that the adhesive tapes do not move or come off. It is better not to place tapes on the hair - they will peel off faster in this area.

Try on the tapes without first peeling off the protective paper layer. If you have precisely chosen the place where they will be applied, remove the paper and firmly fix the tapes without letting go for 30 seconds.

Next, secure the elastic using a hook and knots at the crown/back of the head, depending on the desired effect. The degree of tension can be adjusted. If the girl has smooth hair, it is worth additionally securing the result with a bobby pin. If the elastic bands are too long, cut off the extra knots. Under loose hair and when styling, the visibility of elastic bands should be minimal.

Tapes can also be used to correct the neck, providing a lifting effect. In this case, they are attached to the sides of the neck and fixed at the back.

As we wrote above, the most popular makeup using tapes is the “fox look”.
