How to apply eye shadow: 6 tips from the world's top makeup artists
A word from the experts

We've collected some useful tips from the world's top makeup artists to figure out how to apply eye shadow even more beautifully and make your makeup even more perfect.
It seems that there is nothing complicated in applying eye shadow, but in practice it turns out that the product crumbles or smudges, looks insufficiently bright and colorful, visually makes the eyes smaller, or simply looks inharmonious. We have collected useful tips from the best makeup artists from different countries to make your work easier.
Experiments with color
Celebrity makeup artist Hang Vango, who works with Selena Gomez, Gisele Bündchen, Miranda Kerr, Katy Perry and Emily Ratajkowski, recommends not limiting yourself to color boundaries and constantly searching, experimenting and trying something new when working with shadows. Standard schemes from the category “makeup for blondes or “makeup for gray eyes” are a thing of the past, which should be replaced by your makeup solutions.
Primer
Makeup artist and founder of her own successful brand Laura Mercier recommends not forgetting about primer. This beauty product will even out the texture of the skin of the eyelids, and the color of the shadows will lie evenly. The effect of primer is especially noticeable when using cream products: without it, many of them crease and do not look as bright as they should. But crumbly shadows will also look richer with it.
Concealer on eyelids
If you don't have an eyelid primer on hand and your makeup needs to be long-lasting, Pat McGrath recommends using a light-weight concealer as a base. It will provide the shadows with durability and extend their service life even in the summer heat season, which is about to arrive. By the way, the legendary makeup artist even applies lipstick to her lips over concealer - this way it goes on much smoother and lasts several times longer.
Pencil as a base
Another tip from Hanga Vango is to use a pencil as a base for eyeshadow. This technique helps make makeup brighter and more contrasting. The makeup artist first completely paints the eyelid, and then proceeds to shading.
evening make-up
Top makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury for evening makeup recommends carefully working with shadows on the lower lash line or applying a dark shade to the outer corner of the eye, layering the product several times to achieve the desired brightness. You can complement this makeup with shadows with shimmer. By the way, the makeup artist advises applying them with your fingers on the moving eyelid or inner corner of the eye.
Correct shading
"Blending the eyeshadow with the same brush you used to apply it will leave a visible border on the outer corner of the eyes," says Kim Kardashian's makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic. To ensure that the boundaries are not visible, Mario advises not to apply shadow beyond the outer corner of the eyes, but to use a barrel-shaped brush for shading.
