All the subtleties and nuances: makeup for looming eyelids
Main rules
Knowing how to create harmonious makeup for one or another aspect of a client’s appearance is the direct responsibility of every makeup artist. Together with an expert, we figure out how to apply eye makeup with a looming eyelid.
Every experienced makeup artist, during his professional career, has encountered such a feature of the eye shape as a drooping eyelid. If makeup is done incorrectly, the color of the shadows and eyeliner are “eaten up,” the eyes look even smaller and narrower than they actually are, and the shape of the eye looks inharmonious.
We decided to figure out how to remove drooping eyelids using makeup so that your client leaves you happy and satisfied. What beauty products to use, how and where to apply shadows, how to choose the right eyeliner shape and decide on shades - makeup artist Olesya Koryakina answers all these questions.

What shadows should be used, how and where should they be applied in order to perform corrective eye makeup for drooping eyelids?
Ask the client not to close her eyes when applying eye shadow or eyeliner, otherwise it will be difficult for you to understand where exactly the natural crease of the eyelid is. As a result, you are unlikely to be able to perform corrective makeup. Please note that you need to use shadows of dark shades not only in the crease of the eyelid, but also above it. In this case, the color will be visible not only when your eyes are closed, but also when your eyes are open.
Use matte shadows. To make the client's drooping eyelid look smaller and not attract attention, avoid shiny textures - they reflect light and will enlarge this area of the eye. The solution is to use matte shadows that will help achieve the desired result. Give preference to waterproof formulas. This applies to both mascara and eyeliners and shadows. With drooping eyelids, the eyelashes and part of the movable eyelid most often come into contact with the upper eyelid, which leads to imprinting of cosmetic products.

What eyeliners should I use in makeup for drooping eyelids?
The ability to draw beautiful, neat, thin and even arrows is considered a real art. But in order to visually enlarge your eyes and emphasize your makeup, you need to be able to correctly select the ideal shape of the arrows . Girls with drooping eyelids need to select eyeliner with special care, paying attention to the shape of the eyes.
- For those with close-set eyes, it is better to draw thin arrows using a liner or pencil. At the same time, I advise you to draw such an arrow from the middle of the eye, without going into the inner corner.
- For girls with wide-set eyes, we take the exact opposite approach. The arrow should run along the entire length of the eye: the inner corner should not be ignored. You can draw the arrow a little thicker than in the first case.
- If the client has small eyes, you can start the arrow either from the inner corner of the eye or from the middle. The main thing is that the end of the arrow is outside the outer corner of the eye, gradually expanding. If you think your eyes lack roundness, make the line thicker towards the middle of the eye.
- To correct round eyes, you need to draw an arrow along the entire length of the eye, which will extend beyond its limits at the outer corner. This arrow will help visually narrow the shape of the eyes.
- To make the eyes appear rounder, an arrow must be drawn along the entire length of the eye, without going beyond the outer corner, but slightly thickening it in the middle. The secret to a perfect arrow: the tip should end strictly under the outer edge of the eyebrow, neither closer nor further.
How to choose shades of shadows and pencils so that your makeup looks harmonious?
The correct combination of colors in eye makeup, in particular the combination of shadows, eyeliner, pencil and mascara, must be in harmony with the girl’s eye color. When choosing shades, always use the table “Combination of makeup colors for a particular eye color.”
If a girl has gray or blue eyes, a combination of eye makeup colors such as gray-beige and bright silver, gold and bronze, a combination of soft pink shades and warm brown, etc. will look gorgeous. But colors such as champagne and reddish will help make your look bright.
A favorable combination of beige, pink and gray shades is ideal for brown eyes. Shades of gray, black and purple will look beautiful on the eyelids. Also, girls with brown eyes will look stunning if they try makeup with olive and dark gray shades. For those with green eyes, a stylish combination of pleasant champagne and rich chocolate colors will suit you. Warm shades of brown will also be relevant.
How to dye eyelashes correctly?
For daytime looks, choose mascara with a neat comb-brush, which will help color your eyelashes well and lightly focus attention on them, but not turn them into the main detail of the look. To create evening makeup, use mascara with a large fluffy brush.

You should start coloring from the lower eyelashes. If you paint the upper ones first, there is a 99% chance that they will leave marks on the upper eyelids while you are busy with the lower ones. Painting only the tips of your lashes is a great option if you're going for a no-makeup look. To get the most out of your mascara, start from the roots. This will lift your eyelashes and at the same time make your look more open. Make zigzag movements - thanks to them you can paint each eyelash more efficiently. Don't forget to use waterproof mascara so it doesn't mark on your upper eyelid.
