The article presents the diagnostic possibilities of ultrasound examination of the skin and the results of the author's work in this direction

Ultrasound examination of the skin is still one of the most difficult methods of diagnosing the skin. Given that this study is only performed on a specific device with appropriate sensor criteria, there is currently little research and clinical practice around the world. However, its popularity is growing, and some myths about this method of studying the skin are even emerging.

Possibilities of ultrasound and scope of application

Let's start with what exactly can be seen with the help of ultrasound. Visualization of the epidermis and dermis is possible with the help of an ultrasound sensor of at least 22-25 mHz, there are also sensors of 50, 75 and 100 mHz. For comparison: a standard ultrasound examination of internal organs is performed at a frequency of 5-7 mHz, soft tissues at 12 mHz.

If we talk about the standard of skin research, then it is carried out within the scope of examination of only the layers of the skin-epidermis, dermis, partially hypodermis and skin appendages located in the specified layers.

It is impossible to see the muscles, periosteum, SMAS layer.

Let's consider in which areas of dermatology and aesthetic medicine skin ultrasound is used.
