Let's consider the basic ideas about skin microbiome and methods of its study.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the study of the microbiome (microbiota) - a collection of microorganisms that also live in the human body. This was facilitated by the development of molecular DNA sequencing technologies, as well as the launch of a project to study the microbiome and its subsequent reincarnations.

New facts discovered by scientists around the world not only gave answers to current questions, but also gave birth to new ones, and sometimes in a geometric progression. Therefore, today the study of the microbiome has become a kind of trend in scientific circles. Where did it all start and where have we come to now?

The study of the skin microbiome largely depends on the methods used, the simplest and most convenient of which is the smear. However, it is the least informative, as it gives an idea of a specific area of the skin's surface, but not of its deeper layers. More data can be obtained from a scraping, but in such samples, unfortunately, there are many "extra" skin cells.
