Skin care procedures are the main work of cosmetologists and are recommended for all patients. Let's consider the problems that can arise in case of excessive skin care.

For a long time, we have been popularizing cosmetology: we teach the population to wash properly, use creams in a timely manner, treat acne, protect themselves from the sun, prevent and correct age-related changes, etc. However, not everyone is yet embraced by the love of cosmetology, and not everyone considers regular self-care to be part of a healthy lifestyle for a modern person, so it is necessary to popularize this aspect of life and explain to the population how to properly care for their skin. However, in recent years, the opposite phenomenon has been observed among specialists and patients: obsessive attention to one's appearance, exaggeration of existing and far-fetched problems, excessive enthusiasm for the achievements of modern cosmetology. Therefore, there is a pressing need to conduct explanatory work in this direction as well. This is what we will discuss in the article.

What happens if you use exfoliants too intensively?

Exfoliants have been used for skin care since ancient times because they provide quick and noticeable results. After exfoliation of the stratum corneum, the skin color is evened out and refreshed, its texture improves, the skin becomes smooth to the touch, reflects light more evenly, comedones are less noticeable, and pores are reduced. If exfoliation procedures are carried out too often, the skin perceives this as an aggressive environmental impact, and a protective reaction is activated. And how can the skin protect itself from external influences? By thickening the stratum corneum, producing a protective mantle, and increasing pigmentation. This is exactly what we observe in our patients.
