A lot of bans apply specifically to the perfume industry:

  • essential oils;
  • aromatic extracts;
  • natural perfume components.

Usually the reason for the ban is an irritant effect or photosensitization.

Examples of banned aroma ingredients:

  • juniper essential oil;
  • fig leaf oil;
  • black mustard essential oil;
  • Peruvian balsam;
  • verbena;
  • sassafras, etc.

This is a sensitive topic for perfumers, as many components have been produced by small family businesses for centuries.
