Skin barrier function: ability for natural regeneration

Human skin is a complete barrier between the body and the external environment, protecting the body from harmful external influences, the penetration of toxins, allergens, microorganisms, and drying out. The main role in the art of communication and relationships is also assigned to the skin. Let's talk about skin aging and its ability to naturally regenerate.
The aesthetic value of the appearance of the skin is difficult to overestimate, but due to such circumstances as the passage of time, the influence of physical and chemical factors, and genetic characteristics, it inexorably loses its attractiveness. Therefore, the skin has the ability to regenerate, that is, restore damaged tissues over time. Regeneration is a medical term that generalizes a multitude of complex biological processes that control the formation and restoration.
Skin aging is an irreversible process, but humanity is characterized by the struggle with those phenomena that do not suit it. For this reason, at the present stage, the most frequently used concepts are “rejuvenation effect”, “anti-wrinkle”, “revitalization effect”. Such statements suggest that the ingredients of skin care products are able to positively affect the consequences of the aging process and directly on its course. Advertising slogans emphasize the possibility of enhancing regeneration processes, and the consumer always understands this. The concept of “restorative” supports this illusion. Cosmetic manufacturers, when discussing the regenerative properties of their products, often use phrases such as “the product promotes regeneration” or “stimulates regeneration.” The main point of such statements is that cosmetics are only a supplement to the processes of natural skin regeneration. The skin is prone to self-regeneration.
