The main advantage of permanent makeup - its durability - can play a cruel joke and turn into a disadvantage. If the client has previously become the owner of a low-quality tattoo, he will most likely want to correct it or completely get rid of the pigment. However, it's not as easy as you might think.

This material is devoted to such a delicate matter as working with low-quality PM - an exclusive translation of an article published on the website of the international magazine for micropigmentation specialists PMU International. Magazine of Permanent Makeup (original article -link )

To remove low-quality PM, painful methods were previously used, which also lead to tissue scarring, such as surgical excision of the pigmented area, infrared coagulation, or deep dermabrasion.

Today, there are much less traumatic and more effective ways to get rid of unwanted pigment - exposure to a laser and a remover. The latter will be discussed in more detail in this article.

What is a remuver?

Remover is a chemical preparation that helps remove pigment from the skin. The procedure is invasive and resembles a permanent makeup procedure, but instead of a coloring agent, a neutralizer is injected into the skin.

The effect of removal with a remover is quite easy to explain. It contains derivatives of metal oxides, and its molecules are similar in size to pigment particles. Once in contact, the compounds mix and are excreted from the body by the lymphatic system.

Chemical tattoo removal technique

The tattoo removal procedure is performed using the machine. At the first stage, the PM master disinfects the treated area and applies an anesthetic cream.

The next step is the actual removal. The container of chemical to be removed must be shaken well and the product must be checked for uniform consistency. If it thickens, you can dilute the suspension with sterilized water. With an empty needle or dipped in a wash (depending on the manufacturer's recommendations), the artist makes punctures along the pigmented area of \u200b\u200bthe skin. The depth of insertion of the needle should not be greater than when applying a permanent, and the total impact area is more than five square centimeters. Otherwise, the risk of scarring of the skin during the healing period increases.

The next step: the suspension is applied superficially to the area of the tattoo. After a few minutes (the exact amount is indicated in the instructions for the selected remover), it is wiped with a damp sponge. This step is repeated 2-3 times. At the end of the session, a thin layer of remover is applied to the treated skin and does not rub off.

Preparing to remove permanent makeup

To completely remove permanent makeup, you need to prepare in advance for the procedure. It is recommended to avoid foods that can cause swelling and redness of the skin. Three days before the session, you must refrain from drinking alcohol, and for one day exclude fatty, spicy and salty foods, as well as coffee from the diet.

The day before permanent makeup removal, the client should stop taking medications that can thin the blood.

If you plan to remove the pigment from the lips, it is recommended to start taking anti-herpetic drugs three days before the procedure.

Care of the treated area after the tattoo removal procedure

After the procedure, the client receives a reminder of postoperative care. Failure to follow the rules described below may adversely affect the outcome of the procedure and lead to scarring.

  1. Do not tear or wet the crust that forms after the procedure.
  2. Active sports, saunas, swimming pools, solariums and beaches should be avoided until the affected area has completely healed.
  3. Do not use cosmetic and exfoliating products in the affected area until complete healing.
  4. If swelling or redness occurs, an antihistamine should be used.
