How to increase the speed of work when doing makeup?

When should you discuss an image with a client?

Of course, before starting work, you need to discuss the desired makeup look with the client. It is most convenient to do this immediately before applying makeup, on the same day, when the girl knows for sure what she will wear, what hairstyle she will choose and what overall image she wants to present.

A couple of minutes of conversation with the client, a few leading questions - and you should create a picture of your work in your head. But don't forget to do some extra Sherlock Holmes-style analysis by looking at the person and paying attention to the details. They help us create a more familiar and harmonious image for a woman. Since quite often it happens that she herself does not know what she wants, and persistently asks for red lipstick . And then he looks at himself in the mirror in horror and wonders: “Why is it so bright?”

How to properly organize your workplace?

The main thing is that your workplace looks clean and tidy, because it is brushes and cosmetics that are introduced to the makeup artist even before his work begins. The customer will always notice the brand on the jar and will watch your hand closely to make sure you are not using a dirty brush.

Although our working conditions are very different. I had to work both in luxury hotels and in a minibus on the go at night. But wherever you are, try to keep your tools organized and optimize the amount of cosmetics you take with you to a client. Don't try to impress your client with the number of bags you brought to him. Especially if you are going to paint the bride: it is unlikely that you will need a palette of multi-colored face painting. The only thing that can make your life easier is a cool suitcase that will serve as a good organizer.

How much time on average should a makeup artist spend on creating such types of makeup as evening, daytime, wedding, and photography makeup?

There is no exact answer to this question, since each situation, like each individual client or customer, is individual. Previously, there was an opinion among salon professionals that one evening make-up should take a master 1 hour. But time changes and the rhythm of life of our clients changes. Few modern women can afford to spend so much time on makeup, and another hour on styling and an hour and a half on manicure!

All clients today need it as quickly as possible! In fact, it won’t be difficult for you to spend less time on makeup - just don’t chat or get distracted while working. If you value your time and the time of your client, I would recommend approximately the following time frame: daytime makeup - 20 minutes, evening makeup - 40 minutes. This, of course, does not apply to wedding makeup or makeup for a photo shoot, since these types of work involve a large number of details. I recommend spending at least an hour on these types of makeup.

How long should each stage of makeup creation ideally take?

Each case is individual, so it is impossible to give exact recommendations. If the girl has perfect skin, then applying the fluid will not take you even three minutes, but if the skin is problematic and you need to disguise many imperfections, for a good result without the effect of painting and plastering, you will have to spend a lot of time. Perhaps even more than when creating a smokey eye .

Of course, the most time-consuming stage is eye makeup. But don’t forget: if your complexion looks bad, makeup won’t save you even with the most perfect eyeliner.

How can you practice this or that type of makeup in order to do it faster?

There is only one way: repeat many, many times every day. If you want to become the god of arrows, draw them at least five times a day. And it’s important to change faces: grab all your friends, acquaintances and just fill your hand.

As practice shows, it is better to train not on models, because putting makeup on an ideal face is not so difficult. But in life we come across different girls and women: with different facial anatomy, features, advantages or disadvantages of appearance - and we must be able to work with them. For example, if you want to practice arrows, try drawing them on a drooping age eyelid. After this, makeup for a bride with big eyes will be an easy task for you!
