The main makeup trends for winter 2020/2021: the opinion of a makeup artist
Which ones do you like?
Winter has already come into its own, which means it's time to talk about the main makeup trends for the cold season. Are there any cardinal changes in the field of makeup, which trends should be paid special attention to, and which ones to forget about? Let’s find out together with Tyutyushka Matvienko.

Vibrant matte skin
In winter, a matte finish in facial makeup comes to the fore. But at the same time, it is important that it is not dry skin or a mask effect, but a living matte finish. To add freshness, you can use a small amount of blush, as well as highlighter, using it only on a few areas of the face.
Also, don’t forget that in winter you should give preference to moisturizing foundations, since right now the skin is especially susceptible to dryness.
Natural correction
Striped cheekbones have long been a thing of the past, giving way to more natural, vibrant makeup. The correction remains in trend, but it should not be noticeable to the eye.
Gentle glow
If last year it was fashionable to shine so that this shine could be seen from space, now using a large amount of highlighter is no longer relevant. This also applies to applying pearlescent foundations to the entire face. It seems to me that it will always be fashionable to highlight the cheekbones, because this technique allows you to make the face more voluminous. At the same time, it is important to remember that shining particles emphasize enlarged pores and rashes, so you should not apply highlighter to problem areas of the face.
creative arrows
Nowadays, a huge number of arrows are in fashion - both black and colored. The trend is classic arrows with an upward ponytail, as well as all sorts of creative options. In winter 2020/2021, you can experiment and use several colored lines at once - there are no restrictions! Extravagant double arrows, fancy lines and all kinds of shade combinations are in fashion this season.
Expressive makeup eye
Bright, extravagant and careless eye makeup is another winter trend. The creators of this trend are makeup artists at Fashion Week shows, who, as a rule, have a minimum of time to apply makeup to, for example, 30 models. Of course, we are not talking about special care and careful shading here. But offering such makeup to a client would be at least strange, so it remains fashionable within the framework of a fashion show.
Monochrome makeup
Monochrome makeup looks also remain in fashion. They can be created in different shades, ranging from natural and pastel to quite colorful. This makeup is created with several textures in the same color with different finishes. For example, you can safely combine mousse shadows or glitter on the eyelids and matte lipstick.
"Fox Look"
“Fox eyes” is a makeup trend in 2020. A special makeup technique helps to visually lengthen the eyes and make them more seductive, giving the look that same cunning squint of a fox. Some clients find this technique very suitable and like it, but it should not be used for girls with narrow eyes.
Glitter and stones
Traditionally, in winter, glitter is among the top makeup trends, and during the New Year holidays, not only sparkles of all colors and sizes are welcomed, but also stones, rhinestones, feathers and other decorative options. The main thing is to know what these elements are glued to. The easiest way to fix stones is with eyelash glue, but I recommend placing loose pigments on a special glitter base or on an eyeshadow primer with a suitable texture.
Clear contour and kissed lips effect
This winter, two opposing trends will fight for leadership, so I recommend approaching lip makeup individually, based on the wishes of clients. But as practice shows, girls come to a makeup artist for a perfect, clear lip contour. But our goal remains the same - to make the client happy!
