What are peptides and what is their role in cosmetology

Peptide therapy in the fight against aging

One of the real possibilities of bioregulation is peptides, which are confidently conquering the market of modern cosmetology. Let's consider the theories of aging and the use of peptidotherapy in the practice of a cosmetologist.

To date, there are about 20 theories that can answer the questions "what is aging?", "What are its mechanisms?" and "how to prevent it?". The most popular of them are:

  1. Free-radical oxidation, as a result of which the lipid bilayer of membranes is broken, intracellular structures are damaged. Damage to mitochondria (the cell is overtaken by "energy failure") and DNA is especially dangerous when the cell dies or mutates, turning into a tumor.
  2. Hayflick's theory: each cell has a certain number of divisions - a limit, when it is exhausted, the renewal of biological structures stops.
  3. The theory of glycation – damage ("gluing") by sugars of extracellular proteins, lipids, aminoglycans into insoluble conglomerates, so-called AGE-products.

The mechanisms described in the theories lead to a decrease in the body's resistance to damaging factors. However, damage to biological structures resists their restoration. Over the course of life, damage accumulates, and restorative and adaptive mechanisms are exhausted, as a result, homeostasis (unbreakable constancy of the internal environment) is disturbed, diseases develop, in the fight against which the body wears out and ages.

Consideration of the listed and other theories of aging leads to the conclusion that the more fully one's own regenerative mechanisms work, the longer and more active longevity is. Therefore, modern gerontology follows the path of maintaining the optimal operation of these mechanisms, assigning an important role to this process to peptides.
