Peptides: a work of high biotechnical art
Application in cosmetology
Today, peptides are "in trend" and interest in them will only increase in the coming years. Let's learn a little more about them from the point of view of chemistry.
Even 40 years ago, there was a technology for obtaining peptides, but they were not widely used in cosmetology. For one simple reason - it is expensive and troublesome to do. At that time, new peptide ingredients appeared with a frequency of one per year. By the end of the current decade, more than 20 new peptide compositions appear per year. Today, everything has changed, improved, and the price of peptides, which is called "in trend", has become cheaper. And, in my opinion, interest in them will only increase in the next 15 years. Why such an honor - let's talk.
From the file
Portrait. Biologically active peptides are a sequence of simpler bricks - amino acids. Peptides include chains of 2-50 amino acids. If more, it is already considered small protein. All the variety of peptides can be reduced to groups according to the properties they have.
Role in the body
Depending on which amino acids follow each other, peptides perform a number of functions:
- signal transmission;
- inhibiting the work of enzymes (enzyme-inhibiting);
- disrupts the transmission of nerve impulses, a la Botox (neurotransmitter-inhibiting);
- transport function.
