Stimulation of skin metabolism: possibilities of transmembrane protein
Discovery of the Klotho protein
To reduce the rate of aging, it is recommended to follow the advice of a cosmetologist for the care of mature skin. What is Klotho protein and what are its functions in the human body? Let's consider modern research and evidentiary facts about the effect of protein in cosmetology.
The history of great discoveries often begins with accidents. This is exactly what happened to the Klotho protein back in 1997, when Japanese researchers led by Makoto Kuro-o discovered the Klotho gene.
While studying transgenic mice expressing a sodium-proton exchanger, scientists accidentally damaged the locus of a nearby gene, and the mice showed a striking phenomenon reminiscent of human aging. This phenomenon was noted:
- growth
- retardation;
- hypogonadism;
- atrophy of the skin, thymus;
- calcification of blood vessels and soft tissues;
- osteoporosis;
- pulmonary emphysema.
In contrast, overexpression of Klotho in mice led to increased lifespan. Therefore, the discovered gene was named after one of the goddesses of fate, the goddess Klotho, who spins the thread of life.
