All over the world, dietary supplements are certified by sanitary and hygienic services and are not subject to mandatory clinical trials. This explains their widespread distribution on the market: bypassing pharmacologists, their path to the consumer is much easier, and at the same time, this creates a certain ambiguity in their status.

The quality of dietary supplements is checked during production, which is often used by unscrupulous manufacturers, violating technology and recipes. The food and pharmacological spheres of biologically active supplements have become so assimilated in recent years that it is sometimes difficult to understand whether we are taking food or medicine. Thus, the physiological level of the content of active principles of many plant substances that are part of dietary supplements in the cells and tissues of the body is still unknown, as is the physiological need for them in a healthy person.

In many of the biologically active supplements, the active principles are not identified at all. In this regard, there is a danger in prescribing dietary supplements consisting of medicinal plants with a high content of highly active active principles. It is necessary to know the mechanism of their action and clearly set doses. Reactions of a compensatory-adaptive nature may be inadequate and cause the development of pathological changes.

All of the above, combined with unreliable (and often aggressive) advertising, creates fertile ground for fraud and deception in the production and sales of dietary supplements.
