Mineral oil is one of the most common ingredients in cosmetics, but at the same time it has one of the worst reputations - perhaps on a par with parabens. Undoubtedly, today's trend for organic products - natural ingredients in cosmetics - has played a role in this.
Many people assume that all-natural is safer, more effective, and healthier than artificial ingredients by default, so they choose plant-based oils like coconut over mineral oil products for their skin care.
Is mineral oil really harmful to the skin?
Usually the reputation of refined mineral oil precedes the real facts. However, for many years there have been no serious complaints about the use of mineral oil.
In fact, mineral oils are not so "unnatural" - they come from petroleum jelly, which is an organic substance of exclusively natural origin. Petroleum, from which mineral oils are extracted, was formed from the mass of prehistoric plants, algae and plankton.
