With the advent of lasers and new technologies, the use of chemical peels has decreased. However, the ease of performing the procedure, minimal pain, availability and the cost/effectiveness ratio allow chemical peelings to hold significant positions in the therapy of dyschromias and photoaging.

Chemical peels are a simple procedure used to treat dyschromias, photoaging, and superficial scarring that can produce excellent cosmetic results when repeated in carefully selected patients.

In cases of surface and middle peeling, anesthesia is not required. Mild tranquilizers and anxiolytics may be used in restless patients.

The necessary peeling agent is poured into a glass, the neutralizing agent is kept ready. Sensitive areas of the skin, namely the corners of the eye slits and nasolabial folds, are treated with petroleum jelly. The peeling agent is applied with a brush, an applicator with a cotton tip or gauze napkins.
