Chemical peels: pre-procedural treatment and prevention of complications
Medical standards and treatment protocols

Chemical peels are a procedure that is widely used in cosmetology and is constantly being improved based on knowledge about the activation of skin healing processes after controlled chemical exposure. Let's talk about pre-peeling preparation.
It is necessary to start pre-peeling preparation at least 2-4 weeks before the procedure. This helps to reduce the wound healing time, facilitates the unification of the penetration of the peeling agent, reveals the intolerance of some agents, forces the patient to follow the recommendations and reduces the risk of complications.
During the pre-peeling preparation, any infections or preclinical stages of dermatoses are controlled, photoprotectors of a wide spectrum are used. Patients prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation should be prescribed hydroquinone 2-4%.
In patients with a heavy history of herpes simplex with mid-deep and deep peeling, antiviral therapy with acyclovir or famciclovir is recommended 2 days before the start of the procedure for 7-10 days until complete re-epithelialization.
