Complications of fractional photothermolysis: prevention and elimination
2025-11-13

To many specialists, the fractional photothermolysis procedure seems quite simple, but one should not forget about the possible complications. It is very important to have a complete understanding of them, since most of them are preventable.
As is known, fractional rejuvenation is a method of laser treatment, which creates numerous zones of thermal damage (microthermal treatment zones - MTZ) of controlled width, depth and density, surrounded by intact areas of viable epidermis and dermis. The process of healing and restoration of the skin microstructure in the affected area occurs quickly.
By the degree of severity, complications of fractional photothermolysis can be divided into:
- mild (edema, congestive erythema, acne and milia, superficial erosion, contact dermatitis);
- moderate (infection, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation);
- complex (hypertrophic scarring, ectropion formation).
