Most parents know to read food or drink labels before giving them to their child. They are increasingly aware of the potential harm caused by environmental products. But are cosmetics safe for baby care?
Every parent would like to assume that baby care products - from shampoos to diapers - are safe, but unfortunately, this is not always the case.
Baby care products, like all children's cosmetics, are not strictly evaluated and controlled, even in the United States. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), most cosmetic products and ingredients are not subject to prior certification.
Additionally, hazardous ingredients may be added to products but not listed on labels if they are considered fragrance or trade secrets. Given this lack of regulation, it's no surprise that baby care products contain many harmful ingredients.
