Anna Funikova: "There is little science and medicine in aesthetic medicine now"
Interview with Anna Funikova
Meeting Anna is extremely difficult: if not teaching, then seeing patients, between them there are trips and performances at professional events. Therefore, the time for the conversation was postponed several times.
Interviewed by Irina Shapovalova,
editor-in-chief of magazine PRO Cosmetology by «Cosmetologist»
Meet Anna Funikova — dermatovenereologist, founder of the Ukrainian Medical Aesthetic Academy School of Cosmetology and Aesthetic Medicine and the multidisciplinary clinic Medical Community, trainer of famous brands, speaker of many major international events, scientific director of the Conference on effective and safe work with PEELings PEEL. All this is the result of her work in aesthetic medicine for 15 years.
— Anna, how many hours are there in your day? Own clinic, training of specialists, presentations at leading professional events in Ukraine? What else have I missed?
— I work enough to be a successful doctor and a happy person. But to deceive nature and change the course of time, even in days, I have not yet succeeded.
— Why can't you do it? What do you really want to do but don't work out?
— I try to prioritize correctly, so I can’t say that I don’t have time for something. Of course, I would like to devote more time to my friends and family, however, like any modern person. From the nearest plans — to finish the book on peelings.
— In your opinion, what are the main problems in the field of cosmetology and aesthetic medicine now?
- One of my favorite jokes: "The patient very often needs the care of a doctor, and the farther he goes, the better." Unfortunately, now in aesthetic medicine there is too much marketing, SMM, visualization, a lot of aesthetics, and too little science and medicine. The second key problem is that this area is practically not regulated by law. This should be changed.
— How, in your opinion, will the aesthetic sphere develop, what trends will be in the near future? Will injectable cosmetology keep its position or will something be able to push it?
— The main trends today are hardware cosmetology and combined techniques. By the way, I am currently working with a large company in our market on an interesting project, the meaning of which is to monitor the results of applying two very popular procedures - hardware and injection. At the end of this year, we plan to publish these data. First of all, devices are replacing surgery - after all, not every patient is ready to decide on an operation. Another peculiar trend: today there are fewer primary appointments at the doctor of aesthetic medicine patients who have never used the services of a cosmetologist or plastic surgeon, so now we will face complications from previous interventions more often. And the last interesting trend: anti-aging comes to the fore as the basis of health and beauty. A comprehensive examination of the patient, an integrated approach with the work of doctors of related specialties, including psychologists, to ensure not only beauty and youth, but also the health of the patient, which certainly includes psychological comfort and balance.
