Oily skin: from teens to adults
A personalized approach will help to avoid many dermatological problems
Determination of the skin type and its current state is the basis for personalized cosmetic treatment and the success of aesthetic correction programs.
Skin type (oily, dry, normal) is genetically predetermined and conditioned to a greater extent by the intensity of sebaceous and sweat glands secretion production.
Current skin condition is an additional characteristic that reflects the change of skin status due to various exo- or endogenous factors (sensitive, pigmented, dehydrated, dry, aging). Quite often there is a combination of skin types and conditions, making it difficult to choose an adequate treatment.
The problem of oily facial skin is of particular relevance due to the anatomical features of this topographic region (the number of sebaceous glands on the face reaches 900 per 1 square centimeter, compared to the back of the hand, where they are no more than 20), age characteristics of sebum secretion, which is activated in puberty (physiological hyperandrogenism), reaches a maximum by 18-20 years of age, and then gradually decreases. In women of perimenopausal age (45+) there is a short-term increase in sebum activity due to short-term hyperandrogenism due to progressive unavoidable hypoestrogenism. In certain situations, seborrhea, early (acne) and late acne (acne tarda) can develop on the background of oily skin, which is not only an aesthetic but also a dermatologic problem.
