Many novice makeup artists don’t know which brush to apply highlighter with, because the choice of tools is huge! Let's figure out what's what and what shapes of brushes you should pay special attention to.

Let's say right away: there is no single correct brush shape for applying highlighter - it all depends on your convenience, habit and purpose. Some people find it comfortable to apply a shining product with a large brush so that the shimmering particles fall on the skin like a soft haze. Some people like smaller brushes, with which you can create very effective and noticeable highlights. And some makeup artists use different highlighter brushes depending on the task they are faced with.

Types of highlighter brushes

Fan brush . It is designed to sweep away excess makeup from the surface of the skin, as well as for a light, smoky highlighter application. If you apply the product with the tip of a brush, you will be able to draw even thin lines, for example, on the back of the nose.

Blush brush. If you want to cover a large area of skin with highlighter and at the same time want to achieve a laconic glow, then take a blush brush - it will do the job perfectly. A small powder brush will also work in this case.

Torch shaped brush. Many brands call a highlighter brush a small, torch-shaped tool that resembles an eyeshadow blending brush, but is slightly larger. With its help, it will not be difficult to add bright highlights and carefully draw highlighting lines on the skin.

Kabuki. Many celebrity makeup artists love kabuki brushes and use them to apply a wide variety of products, including highlighter. This tool allows you to achieve the beautiful effect of polished skin, which is so popular now on Instagram.

Duofiber. A special two-bristled brush is ideal for applying cream and liquid highlighters. Choose a tool for correction, not foundation. Smaller brushes are better suited for this purpose - they will literally buff the highlighter into the skin.

What kind of bristles should the brush be made of?

For cream and liquid products, synthetic brushes and, as we have already said, duofibres are best suited. They will not absorb liquid products as much as natural brushes, which means they will transfer more product to the skin.

For dry textures, it is customary to use natural bristle brushes. But thanks to the development of the beauty industry, tools made of synthetic material have long been in no way inferior to brushes with bristles made of animal hair, so the further choice is yours.
