Some cosmetics have been tested not just for years, but for decades, and their first launches took place in the last century. We're talking about iconic makeup products with an interesting history that are worth adding to your cases if you haven't done so before.

Rouge Dior lipstick from Dior

Christian Dior launched his makeup line in 1950, introducing the world to his first beauty product - red Rouge Dior lipstick, the shade of which echoed the color of his New Look fashion collection. The designer did not release the lipstick en masse, but sent it to VIP clients as a gift, causing a sensation and rave reviews. It was with Rouge Dior on their lips that Bette Davis starred in the film “All About Eve” and Marlene Dietrich in the film “Stage Fright”. Such success was another reason for the launch of lipstick in 1953 into mass production.

The first Rouge Dior collection consisted of eight shades that perfectly matched or repeated the red tones of couture fabrics from Christian Dior's collection. Over the years, the number of shades in the line increased, adding orange, pink, coral, and then cherry, brown and rich purple. Today the Rouge Dior line has over one and a half thousand shades! In 2016, the collection of satin lipsticks began to be replenished with the first matte textures. The design of the lipstick case also changed - from a luxurious decoration for a dressing table in the boudoir to a convenient and compact tube, but still elegantly designed.

Concealer-highlighter Touche Éclat from Yves Saint Laurent

Makeup artists love Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Éclat for its natural look on the skin and its understated glow that gives a fresher look. Surprisingly, the brand's bestseller was released in 1992, when no one was talking about highlighters and skin shine. The brand came up with the perfect formula with fine shimmering particles, which were rare at that time.

As Terry de Ginsburg, then creative director of the brand's cosmetics line, admitted, the concealer format was not thought out in advance. According to the plan, the product was supposed to be applied through an applicator, but the manufacturer made a mistake and sent a sample with a brush, which the Yves Saint Laurent employees immediately liked.

Meteorites Météorites Perles by Guerlain

The first meteorites from Guerlain came out in 1987, making a small beauty revolution, because before that no one could even think about powder in balls. Moreover, the product helped create the ideal complexion – natural, healthy and radiant.

Each shade of the balls has its own purpose. For example, white helps to brighten the skin, pink helps to give it freshness, and green helps to mask redness. Mother-of-pearl, silver and gold balls are responsible for the shine, the number of which varies depending on the Guerlain launch.

Several times a year, the brand presents limited makeup collections, which, of course, are not complete without the iconic product, so today the number of different Météorites Perles numbers in the dozens. Each of the launches differs in the shades of the balls, their intensity and brilliance.

Powder v

The fashion house Givenchy released its first line of makeup in 1989, and its debut product was Prisme Visage powder. It immediately attracted the attention of customers - it had four shades at once, each of which performed its own function, creating a natural and beautiful face makeup.

Over time, the color scheme of the product and its texture have changed, but the popularity of Prisme Visage powder has not fallen. Now it offers not only nude powder shades, but also highlighters and sculptors.

Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara

Great Lash mascara appeared in the Maybelline New York assortment in 1971 and immediately became a bestseller, because its formula is based on water. Other makeup products for eyelashes of this period, on the contrary, repelled water, so removing eye makeup for women was not an easy task.

Surprisingly, the formula of the mascara has not changed since then, and Maybelline New York technologists carefully protect its recipe. The beauty product continues to sell well on the market and remains one of the favorites among the brand’s clients.

Original Lip Balm from Carmex

And although Carmex became incredibly popular in Ukraine about five years ago, it has been known around the world for quite a long time. The balm formula was invented by Alfred Walbing back in 1937 - it was his successful attempt to overcome dryness and cracks on the lips during a cold, and in 1980 a recognizable yellow tube with a red cap appeared.

Now Carmex is available in both tubes and jars, and the classic menthol flavor has been complemented by a huge number of others: vanilla, watermelon, strawberry, peach, and so on.

Lipstick in Russian Red from MAC

The MAC brand has a lot of cosmetics with history in its assortment, but today we’ll talk about the iconic lipstick in the shade Russian Red. “Russian Red” gained worldwide popularity thanks to Madonna. It was for her Blonde Ambition tour in 1990 that a luxurious red shade was developed, which was supposed to be bright, contrasting and long-lasting at the same time.

Girls fell in love with Russian Red from MAC also because it does not yellow their teeth, as many other red lipsticks do. On the contrary, thanks to the blue pigment that the developers added to the formula, the legendary product visually whitens teeth.
