What should you know about Guerlain's new creative director Violette Serra?
Let's get to know each other better
French perfume and cosmetics brand Guerlain has appointed Violette Serra as its new creative director for makeup. What is worth knowing about this bright girl and a real makeup guru - we tell you in the material.
Olivier Echaudemaison, who launched many of the brand's bestsellers over the years, has left his post as Guerlain's creative director of makeup. Among them are the Rouge G lipstick line and the expansion of the Terracotta bronzing collection. He was replaced in this post by Violette Serra - she will begin new duties on August 1.
The beginning of the way
Violette studied at the Louvre School and planned to become a fashion designer. But one day a friend asked her to do makeup for a theme party, so she could use cosmetic products to the maximum. Violette decided not to deny herself the pleasure and generously decorated the girl’s face with glitter. At that moment it seemed to her that “dressing” a face was even more exciting than a body.
A couple of weeks later, Violette was already in New York with the book Making Faces by Kevin Aucoin and the firm intention of becoming a makeup artist. She bought herself jars of pigment and began experimenting with products, learning techniques and practicing. Since the girl was still a complete newbie, finding a job in an unfamiliar city, and even with poor English, was unrealistic.
Violette returned to Paris and decided to take a different route - she hired herself an agent. After some time, American Vogue became her first client!
Important stages in the profession
At 27, Violette became an international makeup artist for Dior, and at 33, global beauty director for Estée Lauder. She also participated in the development of cosmetics for the Sephora chain.
The makeup artist has extensive experience in fashion shows and filming, because her portfolio includes dozens of fashion weeks and photo shoots for global glossy publications.
Launching your own brand
In March of this year, Violette launched her own cosmetics brand called Violette_FR. The girl admits that she dreamed of him since she was 17 years old. The brand’s assortment is small, but judging by customer reviews, each product has found a response in the hearts of French women and others. Red matte lipstick, three balms with the effect of kissed lips, highlighter, dry shampoo and eau de parfum - a laconic set for all occasions.
When creating beauty products, Violette is inspired by her beloved Paris in all its manifestations. For example, the idea for velvet lipstick Petal Bouche Matte came to her while walking through the rose garden in the Bagatelle garden.
Makeup handwriting
Violet Serra loves makeup that is creative, yet wearable and can be applied in real life. Her favorite elements include matte red lips, thick winged eyeliner, shimmery textures on the lids, colored eye shadow and subtle blush. Well, if you want to add something completely unusual, Violette will not hesitate to apply glitter under the eyes, draw sweeping graphic arrows along the crease of the upper eyelid, or stick on glitter.
Violette herself most often wears red lipstick, does natural face makeup with a laconic blush and paints her upper eyelids with peach, pink or nude shades of eyeshadow. And, of course, don’t forget about her signature French bangs – you’ll recognize Violette from afar by it.
Collaboration with Guerlain
The makeup artist admits that she has been fascinated by Guerlain cosmetics since childhood, and her favorite product was and is the legendary Météorites powder balls. Violette emphasized that when working with the perfume and cosmetics brand, she plans to continue the tradition of creating products that will highlight the individuality of each client.
“Guerlain is the most famous and in many ways even revolutionary French brand. That’s why I was absolutely blown away when this company asked me to join the brand and help write the next chapter of their story.”
The first products developed in conjunction with Violetta Serra are the velvety matte lipsticks Rouge G Luxurious Velvet in stylish cases with different prints. Of course, the line will not be complete without red lipsticks, which are so close to the new creative director of the brand.
The girl will continue to work in parallel on her own brainchild, Violette_FR, as well as film educational tutorials and reviews of cosmetics on her YouTube channel, which is so loved by beautyholics all over the world.
