Makeup artist's word: Irina Chernysh about the features of New Year's makeup

Irina, tell me how to choose New Year’s makeup for your skirt? What to follow?

Every year, when my colleagues and I begin to prepare for New Year's corporate events, we are faced with one question: What to offer our clients? But everything is very relative. Quite often a person comes to you with certain needs, and he already has a vision of the image in which he wants to see himself. Moreover, if the client is preparing for a themed holiday, for example, in the style of the 60s or James Bond films. In this case, it’s easier for you - you correctly and technically perform the desired makeup. Also, clients often come with a photo of a specific makeup and a request to repeat it.

But if a client doesn't know what kind of makeup she'd like, I'll ask a lot of questions to find out what color her outfit will be, what it will be, what her hairstyle will be, where the event will be taking place, and if there is a specific theme for the event. And, of course, 99% I will be guided by the woman’s features. I see eyebrows, eyes, skin color, cheekbones and lips and based on this I understand what I will focus on. I also clarify whether we will use false eyelashes ourselves, because this choice depends on the client’s wishes.

Only after this I offer certain makeup options that are dictated by fashion trends and that will favorably emphasize the beauty of a woman and the enthusiasm in her eyes. I always pay attention to individuality. Of course, I can suggest trendy arrows, which are very relevant now. But if a client has droopy eyelids, I will suggest a smoky smokey that will suit her better and that will make her feel comfortable and confident. If I don’t focus on the eyes, I can apply a light shade to the eyelid and glue on the eyelashes, and then play with the lips, cheekbones, and highlights on the skin.

What makeup options do clients order most often for the New Year holidays?

One of the most common wishes is red lips; they always attract attention. And if you don’t know how to carry them out perfectly and thoroughly, it’s better not to take it on.

I also often use arrows - classic, double, shaded. Recently I have noticed a trend that girls do not want bright, aggressive makeup options. More and more often, women are asking for something light and ugly. In this case, I can suggest, for example, the same shaded arrow.

I also like to use a variety of smokey eyes with black or colored slime, with shimmer or even crystals for a festive feel. After all, at New Year's events, girls allow themselves to be more relaxed and are ready for makeup options that they do not use in everyday life.

Makeup with bright lips. How to do it neatly and beautifully?

First of all, it is important that the lips allow us to make them bright. For example, if the lips are thin and we emphasize them with color, they will not look as harmonious as we would like. If your lips are full and lush, in a rich color they will become a beautiful accent to the overall look.

The second point is the lipstick color that we choose with the client. If we are talking about plum, red, chocolate shades, we must also ensure that they will harmoniously combine with the color of the girl’s skin and teeth. Next, we look at whether the chosen color will suit the makeup as a whole, because there cannot be two accents on the face.

When choosing lipstick, make sure that it is long-lasting. After all, the product should not be reflected on teeth, cutlery and glasses, and also disperse into purse-string wrinkles around the lips. My favorites include lipsticks from MAC, Kiko Milano and Sephora.
