Black and white classics: Homage collection by Pauline McCabe
Tribute to style
Creativity in images is very cool. But black and white photographs always attract attention and are often associated with Vogue, for example.
The Homage collection is a tribute to the work of Ara Gallant, the first paid hairdresser to work for the famous Vogue magazine in the 1960s, as well as photographers Irving Penn and Richard Avedon.
The creator says that the Homage collection is about clean lines that will help show mastery of classical techniques, but make the classics relevant and modern - with the help of structure, lasting shape, curves and volume.
Ara Gallant's hairstyle is complemented by the unique photography of Richard Avedon and Irving Penn. These artists worked in an era that "gave birth" to the black-and-white fashion style of photography that is still stylish and inspiring today.
More details about the looks from the stylist
For the shoot, I decided to choose the option of classic black and white portraits. They are distinguished by deep contrast, play of lines and their clarity, as well as visual volume. It was Irving Penn who was one of the first photographers who began to photograph objects or people on a gray or white background, using their simplicity.
The photographer I chose to work with on this collection is a fine art photographer. His areas of focus are landscape, portrait and fashion, and his work itself resonates with me. It's about clean lines, classic shapes and the ability to be disciplined.
The makeup vision also reflected the structure and strong lines of the hairstyles. The result: classic makeup with bright lips, winged eyeliner and defined eyebrows. But there's also contour, which uses highlighter to sculpt models' faces and add depth to black-and-white photos.
