Are there any specifics to dyeing dark hair using the balayage technique? What shades can be mixed for a more unusual result? Let's talk!

In one of the previous materials, our experts talked about techniques that occupy leading positions among clients in the new season, and among them was balayage - a technique that has not left the price lists of salons for several years.

Translated from French, balayage means “to sweep.” The technique received this name due to the fact that during the dyeing process the dye is applied with chaotic “sweeping” movements, as if the master is drawing on the hair. The result is the effect of light strands with soft color transitions, as if the hair was bleached by the sun.

This is an open technique, so the shades after dyeing will be in warm and beige directions. But without styling, balayage is “lost,” so this coloring looks more impressive on curly or permed hair. It is not difficult to perform balayage on dark hair, since the base will be dark enough to add interesting color nuances to its contrast, or simply dilute the canvas with a light shade.

As we said above, the value of this technique also lies in the contrast. Such solutions include ashy balayage, balayage with bright red or burgundy-colored strands. The capabilities of the technology allow you to intersperse any shade or even several into the base.

How does the balayage dyeing process take place step by step?

1. Strands are dyed in each section one by one. That is why, for convenience, it is better to divide them into several zones.

2. Staining begins from the occipital area. It is better to dye small strands, 2–5 cm thick. The bleaching composition is applied in a V shape, moving slightly away from the roots. Often, in order not to touch the roots, masters do a light backcombing.

3. It is convenient to isolate the colored strands from each other using foil or special paper.

4. Since the coloring composition is applied chaotically, with sweeping movements, the pattern of such coloring may be different. When the bleaching compound has been left on and washed off, a tinting compound is applied, which will determine the color.

7. After the required time has been maintained, the toning composition is washed off, and the hair is dried and styled.
