Understanding sensitive skin: symptoms and diagnosis
Classification, symptoms, triggers and modern approaches to diagnosis

Dermatologists and cosmetologists often encounter patients who have sensitive skin. However, it is still difficult to determine with certainty whether sensitive skin is a pathology (a condition that requires treatment) or a normal feature.
Symptoms of skin sensitivity are diverse and often unpredictable. Dermatologists often hear complaints about discomfort, the intensity of which can vary significantly.
The variability of triggers for sensitive skin is a significant complication. Most people can identify certain factors that trigger a reaction, but these vary greatly from person to person.
Sensitive skin is very common, with more than 50% of women in Western countries reporting that their skin is sensitive. This trend continues in various regions such as the US, Japan and European countries. Most women who identify their skin as sensitive are in the premenopausal and older age groups.
