During menopause, a woman's body begins to function in a different mode, the level of hormones and their ratios change. The skin, as a hormone-dependent organ, reflects the state of the body, and its structures largely reflect internal processes. During this period, phenomena occur that we usually associate with the aging process. Can cosmetics help in any way?

We have already begun to consider the strategy of skin care during the climacteric period in one of the articles. Let us recall that cosmetics used at this age should, first of all, activate the synthesis of collagen and elastin, restore the lipid barrier of the epidermis, improve microcirculation, and strengthen the antioxidant protection of the skin. In addition, cosmetics should contain active ingredients in maximum concentration. In this article, we continue to consider the main components of anti-age cosmetics.

Moisturizing ingredients

To effectively moisturize the skin, you should choose cosmetics that use NMF (natural moisturizing factor) components as moisturizing ingredients - amino acids in L-form, pyrrolidonecarboxylic acid, urea, lactic acid and its salts. The main moisturizing agents during menopause are amino acids, which simultaneously moisturize the skin and are a substrate for protein synthesis. Other important moisturizing agents (plant and algae polysaccharides, hyaluronic acid, chitosan) act as a water reservoir and help maintain the desired level of moisture in the skin.
