The idea of activating the natural process of skin renewal by exfoliating dead cells of the stratum corneum is not new to mankind. The history of peeling goes back centuries.

Peeling (еngl., to peel - "exfoliate", "remove the crust") is a method of cosmetic exfoliation of the upper layer of the skin, which ensures evenness of the surface and color of the skin. According to the type of action, physical, chemical and enzyme peelings are distinguished. According to the depth of influence, peelings are divided into:

  • superficial (within the epidermis, without damage to the basement membrane);
  • middle (effect on the basal membrane and the papillary layer of the dermis);
  • deep (affect the epidermis, basement membrane, papillary and sometimes reticular layers of the dermis).

The main goal for all types of peeling, regardless of the nature of the effect, is the stress reaction of the skin, which is manifested by the following factors:

  • development of non-specific inflammation;
  • acceleration of cell division of the basal layer of the epidermis;
  • activation of melanocytes;
  • stimulation of collagen and elastin production;
  • strengthening the process of exfoliation of the stratum corneum;
  • accelerating the production of fibroblasts, increasing the rate of synthesis of epidermal lipids.
