Dry skin: the main causes
Clinical aspects of dry skin
Every specialist in his practice faces complaints from patients about dryness and tightness of the skin. Let's consider in detail the causes of dry skin.
Before starting to analyze the problem, let's define what we mean when we talk about dry skin. On the one hand, dry skin is often complained about by patients with insufficient production of sebum. At the same time, there are often people who, on the contrary, have increased activity of the sebaceous glands and the skin is clearly oily.
Dry skin is characterized by a reduced function of the sebaceous glands and an insufficient amount of epidermal lipids. She has impaired barrier functions, she becomes thin, quite lethargic, atonic, reacts to chlorinated water, does not tolerate active detergents, requires fatty nourishing creams.
The barrier function of the stratum corneum is largely determined by the physicochemical properties of its components – keratin, lipid matrix and hydrolipid mantle.
