Sensitive skin in the practice of a cosmetologist
A comprehensive approach to the study of hypersensitivity
Every day, cosmetologists around the world in their practice come across the so-called sensitive or reactive skin. For sensitive skin, it does not matter whether it is oily or normal, combination or dry. The reasons for the appearance of sensitive skin in people are still not clear.
Epidemiological studies have established that the condition "sensitive skin" is quite common and is noted in 50% of adult women in developed countries: residents of Central America - 52%, Asians - 51%, African Americans - 52%. Such studies were not conducted in Ukraine.
The term "sensitive skin" has been known since 1977, and there is no clear definition. Most specialists include in this concept hyperreactivity of the skin to exogenous and endogenous triggers, which are expressed by subjective or objective symptoms. The symptoms of hypersensitivity have their own specificity - this is erythema, a feeling of burning and discomfort, tightness and itching. These signs appear in response to any influences: contact with water or plant pollen, detergents, new cosmetic products, and especially when exposed to heat, cold, wind, and sunlight. Sometimes, even in the absence of external stimuli, the skin flares up against the background of stress or hormonal changes.
Sensitive or reactive skin can be hereditary, acquired or conditioned and idiopathic.
