Facial skin: features of blood supply
Factors that change blood flow
Erythema and some other types of manifestations of facial skin sensitivity are associated with microcirculation disorders. We will recall how the blood supply of the maxillofacial area is carried out, and we will dwell on some features.
Blood supply to the maxillofacial area is carried out from the basin of the external carotid artery and through the branches of the internal carotid artery, which, in turn, form a wide network with developed anastomoses.
The intradermal vascular bed has a number of features:
- arteriovenous shunts (short capillaries that do not have a muscular sheath, which changes the lumen of the vessel);
- high degree of anastomoses between different vessels.
The peculiarities of the blood supply also include the interdependent innervation of the superficial arterial and venous networks of the skin of the face with the blood vessels of the stomach and duodenum. This, for example, explains the origin of facial erythema when eating hot and spicy food.
The lymphatic system is closely related to the circulatory system of the skin, it performs a drainage function. This anatomical feature explains the frequency of the combination of symptoms of lymphostasis (swelling) and microcirculation problems.
