Dry and dehydrated skin: causes and solutions
Note to cosmetologists
Almost every specialist in aesthetic medicine faces the problem of dry skin in patients. What are the causes of dryness and dehydration and what can be done about it?
When a patient complains of dry facial skin turns to a cosmetologist, the specialist must first understand what caused this condition. The condition of the skin is its reaction in response to the influence of external and internal factors that change the barrier properties, physicochemical functions and protective responses. This leads to the formation of visible aesthetic defects.
Often, flabby skin with reduced tone is called dry, referring to the lack of moisture in the deep layers. It is in such cases that the skin is actually dehydrated.
Similar conditions (not skin types) can be divided into three groups:
- Dryness of the skin, caused by the destruction of the barrier structures of the stratum corneum (including such invasive influences as injections, surgery, hardware action, peelings, etc.) or a deficiency of essential fatty acids.
- Pathological dryness of the skin caused by chronic skin diseases or general diseases affecting lipid metabolism (diabetes, psoriasis, hypothyroidism...).
- Dehydration of the skin caused by hormonal changes (age-related) and dysfunctions of subcutaneous structures that lead to biomechanical changes.
