Centella Asiatica for skin health: benefits and use in care products. Part 3.
Use of Centella Asiatica in skin care

Centella plant extract is known for its various healing properties on the skin.
The main reactive substances of Centella Asiatica are saponins or triterpene compounds, one of them being asiaticoside and madecasoside, mentioned earlier. In addition to them, the plant contains sterols, tannins, flavonoids, fatty acids and even amino acids (lysine, alanine, serine, aminobutyric acid, aspartate, glutamate and threonine).
One of the qualities of saponins is their ability to influence the production of collagen (type I and III). Some scientists say that using the whole plant is more beneficial than using individual active substances isolated from it, because the entire spectrum of active molecules produced by the plant works in natural synergy to improve the health of the skin as a whole.
Phytosterols, fatty acids and amino acids help restore the skin's barrier functions and its natural ability to retain moisture, reducing skin sensitivity. This means that using products with Centella asiatica helps to improve skin hydration as well as reduce skin irritation.
