This material is devoted to such an important and complex issue as camouflage in PM - an exclusive translation of an article published on the website of the international magazine for micropigmentation specialists PMU International. Magazine of Permanent Makeup (about the original article at the link )

Camouflage is an important part of permanent makeup as a cosmetic procedure. It helps hide problems such as skin discoloration, scars, burns, congenital anomalies, and many types of skin conditions. The camouflage of the skin or scar is in most cases a basic tattoo, using dense pigments in several tones to match the patient's skin tone. The specialist performing such a procedure must be experienced in both physiological and psychological aspects of patient interaction and have knowledge of various skin types and tissues. Knowledge of the laws of color and skin structure is also very important. An experienced, reputable PM artist will not treat scar tissue prematurely because this can cause further damage to the skin.

It is very important to prepare for the future procedure. Due to such delicate skin treatment, it should be remembered that the scar must be present for at least 9-12 months, have a stable color: if it is red or pink or still changing color, the healing process of the tissue has not yet been completed, and you will need to devote more time to it. The scar needs to be smooth and flat, a camouflage tattoo cannot mask or correct extreme changes in skin texture. If the scar or area of skin is uneven or raised, the process may also be ineffective.

Camouflage can be done in two different ways. A pigmented skin or scar can be traditionally tattooed, or the skin can be "recolored" by injecting pigment to match the surrounding area.

Since tattooing has become so widespread these days, it's no surprise that many people choose the first method to turn an appearance problem into a work of art. In addition, this is the only possible way to hide large scars or change the color and shape of the nipples after breast surgery.

The second option is discoloration or recoloring of areas not exposed to sunlight, since the skin changes color as a result of UV exposure (even if it is carefully protected by sunlight), and the difference between the two skin tones becomes visible.

And be realistic: a camouflage tattoo will not restore the skin to the state it looked before the injury. Permanent makeup will not erase a scar or skin anomaly, but it will certainly make them less noticeable. Of course, the scar after a camouflage tattoo will not perfectly match the color of the surrounding skin. The pigment will not darken when exposed to sunlight, so the tattoo may appear lighter if the surrounding skin is tanned. Thus, a person undergoing such procedures may have to adjust their lifestyle to new circumstances.

It is also necessary to remember that the result cannot be achieved in one session: camouflage repigmentation is a complex process. Since the procedure is performed on damaged skin, its response to can be unpredictable. A vitiligo scar or spot may have areas that absorb the pigment too much or, conversely, repel it. The area will look dark and red immediately after the tattoo session and then it will take several weeks to see the final color. So stock up on time and patience in order to get a grateful client as a result.
