A period of observation after the procedure is necessary after any type of epilation. Firstly, in order to track the effectiveness of the work, and secondly, to control the appearance of side effects and the rehabilitation period. What can specialists and their clients face during this period?

The side effects of hair removal with laser and non-laser sources include:

  • erythema;
  • burns;
  • appearance of hyper- or hypopigmentation;
  • possible scarring.

Burns can appear either when the parameters for the procedure are incorrectly selected according to the phototype of the skin (high energy density, long pulses, insufficient cooling), or when the procedure is performed on fairly tanned skin, or when the procedure is performed on a poorly prepared area (optimal hair length in the treated area is 1–3 mm).

If a burn occurs, the procedure should be stopped, the injured area should be cooled for a long time, followed by treatment with anti-inflammatory and epithelizing drugs (panthenol). When hair removal is performed on tanned skin, light quanta are also absorbed not only by melanocytes of the follicle, but also by epidermal melanocytes, which will lead to their death and the appearance of such a complication as hypopigmentation.
