Probiotics: new fad or scientific discovery?
A healthy microbiome and practical recommendations

Let's figure out why probiotics are needed, who they are suitable for, and how to properly restore the skin's microbiome.
In recent decades, researchers from many countries have studied the microflora of the human body. At first, it was mainly about the "population" of the intestines, but later it turned out that some types of bacteria, viruses and fungi are able to live where the environment was previously considered sterile. After some time, scientists reached the skin, where amazing discoveries awaited them.
Recently, it was proposed to make changes to the definition of the structure of the epidermis and instead of the usual five layers (basal, spiny, granular, shiny, horny) to consider six, adding one more superficial microbial or stratum microbium to the known ones.
To date, it has been established that the microbiome of the human skin interacts with other layers of the epidermis, the state of the microbiome affects the state of the cells of the epidermis and dermis, as well as the processes occurring in the skin. In particular, the speed of renewal of the epidermis, maintenance of the hydrolipid mantle of the skin, retention of moisture in the surface layers, activity of inflammation, processes of tissue respiration, synthesis and destruction of structural elements.
