What at a young age is considered a sign of health thanks to closely spaced vessels, over time can cause an uneven complexion and an unhealthy blush. And others often perceive dilated blood vessels as inflammatory elements. So what is couperosis?

Couperosis is the appearance on the skin of small dilated blood vessels, telangiectasias (from the Greek telos - end, angion - vessel, ectasis - expansion), which is accompanied by redness and can be temporary or permanent. The causes of couperosis can be divided into primary and secondary. The primary ones include a congenital disorder of embryogenesis and the influence of genetic factors (vascular nevi, stellate angioma).

There are many more secondary reasons. Among them: internal diseases (couperosis most often occurs in vegetative neurosis, chronic diseases of the ovaries, thyroid gland, pancreas, hypertension, systemic diseases of the connective tissue); avitaminosis (the appearance of dilated vessels in this case is associated with a decrease in the elasticity of the vascular wall). The phenomenon of couperosis can also be observed with long-term use of corticosteroids.
